For the 75th anniversary of the Allied landings and the Battle of Normandy, which will be celebrated in June 2019, preparations have begun for an exceptional commemoration. Indeed, this “quarter-century” anniversary is probably the last one in which veterans of 1939-45 will be able to participate.

From 6 to 9 June 2019, the Normandy association L-Birds back to Normandy is organising an unprecedented gathering of liaison aircraft, called L-Birds (L for Liaison). More than forty liaison aircraft, all authentic and in their historic 1939-45 colours, will fly to Normandy from all over Europe. 

The particularity of this event is to gather for the first time since 1945 a number of liaison aircraft, true veterans, and representing the different types of aircraft used during the Second World War, from all countries. Carrying a strong message of reconciliation, they will fly together, with pilots of fourteen different nationalities at their controls.

The exceptionality of this gathering lies first of all in the authentic quality, historically and visually, of the aircraft presented.
